Lyrics to the song Rebellion:
I’ve found a place deep in my soul
Where I’m still free to this I hold.
My mind is not yours to take.
Hypnotized, it’s my time to awake!
It’s in all of our lives, its in our magazines, it’s on the news in t.v.
that we are not free
The time has come to wake up, it’s time to fill our own cup,
take life in our own hands, and make ourselves free.
Depressed economy, fear in society,
is all creatively done to enslave thee.
We are in a slavery
no way to be free
with full dependency,
on the Illuminati
the time has come to wake up
It’s time to fill our own cup, take life in our own hands,
and make ourselves free

We got an amazing review from Dave at http//www.Loud-stuff.com. Check it out! http://www.loud-stuff.com/fallen-intent.html

Fallen Intent

I stumbled across Fallen Intent one evening when I was looking for some new music to review. Based on Portland in the US, the chaps were kind enough to agree to a review being posted of their stuff….read on to find out more!

Isolation opens with harmonic picked guitars, all backed up by a bouncing bass line and simple drum beat. The vocals kick in adopting an almost grungy but clean style but telling a story as they progress. All of these elements combine to create a sound akin to some of the more chilled out Pearl Jam tracks, or Alter Bridge at times, it’s a winning recipe which this band can evidently do well. What really stands out in this track is the bass line, it’s right there in the mix from the start and remains prevalent throughout. Remaining harmonic and laid back throughout, this track is one which will bring back memories of days gone by, good times and moments you experienced.

As Rebellion kicks in, the same tone continues from Isolation, again using those picked guitars to open, this time though adding in a distorted riff over the top to add a new level to the track. The drums change this time as well, adding in a double bass pedal, adding a frantic beat to a relatively clean track, something which I’ve never really come across before but works well! Continuing with the catchy approach throughout, this track shows of yet more technical skills from the band in the bass and guitars, both working together to add depth to an already impressive track.

Cocaine Smile again opens harmonic, although sounding darker this time. The vocals take on a more haunting echo in this track, lower in the mix than in previous tracks giving that detached element. This track is probably my favourite from the selection available on the bands FB page. There’s something about the way the guitars move around and progress, they don’t follow a conventional structure somehow, the band have stamped their own influence on to their sound. The chorus sounds almost Spanish-esque at times in the way they’ve done it, it’s a real mix to listen to. Once the solo kicks in, those rolling drums back everything up before once again moving back into those haunting vocals backed by a nice solid bass line. Ending emotionally and heavier than what’s come before, you can sense the feeling behind this track.

Dystopia, opens differently from the others, adopting a distorted/phasery/flangey/wah laden guitar line before braking down to those vocals and the bass again, backed by some picked lead lines. As the track progresses it continues to move between broken down simple sections and more effect laden areas, always giving a new twist to behold at each turn. As the track finishes and Another Chance kicks in, the guitars continue with their sludgy distorted approach, this time adding in a heavier vocal to open the track. Taking on a funky edge to the guitars and bass although adding in some of the most bizarre vocals I’ve ever heard, recommending Capri-Sun as a good drink but reminding us that Juicy Juice is better for us! Aside from the bizarre lyrics, this track is a true grungy catchy anthem, using all of the elements of the band to create a massive sound whilst still keeping to those simple roots built across the tracks so far. The solo on this track as well is something pretty special to listen to!

Finishing with Truth in Cliché, the band ends their selection as they began, picked guitars and harmonic progression throughout the track. The track again features a catchy chorus powered by drive guitars and bass all pushed forward by the hammering drums.

What I really like about Fallen Intent is that they’ve mixed the tracks so every instrument can be heard without being over bearing on the others. The tracks are catchy in their own right and continually add in different sections to keep the listener engaged. It’s a shame these guys are US based as I imagine they put on one hell of a live show – hopefully soon to grace our shores over here!

The Status Quo has been set, What do we do about it?

What do we do about it?  What is it at all?  If it is paranoia, we should ignore the problems we see all around us.  These problems could be a magnification of our media saturated lives, Hysteria. But if we believe that, how can we be sure of anything but what is already known. How do we learn again? How do we adapt and create a new future? I believe we are experiencing a stagnation of our imagination and a testing of our will.  For those of us in physical poverty, decision making is exhausting.  What do you choose when you have next to nothing? A roof or food?  For those of us fortunate to be born in developed parts of the world, the opposite is true. What color I-pod do I get? Chicken or beef?  In this case we mostly make meaningless decisions, We all do our part. Those in power know how to delegate to their advantage, Make you do what they want.  Easy as candy from a baby. Don’t worry, All is well in America.

How do we reclaim our will from the apathy and miopsis of our modern lives? Too few of us are motivated anymore and most who are motivated are fringe fanatics. To para quote the great George Carlin, “Show me a guy who smokes weed all day and I’ll show you a guy who isn’t bothering anyone. But the Christians? These are highly motivated people, highly motivated to mind your business!” I don’t know about you, but I do not want to relinquish any power of decision to a grown adult in the modern world who believes that people can be raised from the dead and try to defend the story that a man was trapped in the belly of a whale. The apathy we experience, I believe, is a direct response to the absurdity of many of our institutions. A human reaction to an unreal situation. If the Pope is the representation of God on Earth, then fuck it, pass the Ketamine!

But we exist, and we must survive. Is survival Consumerism?  Making your mark?  Rubbing it in other’s faces?  Or is it simply cooperation and community? What have we forgotten as a people that pregnant women are begging at freeway on ramps?  Oh, I forgot, She had it coming. Is there a part of you that feels superior to that woman? Then you need medication. But we turn away. I do it too.

That is the measure of our humanity and decency, Not the curing of disease. Not breast cancer donations at Safeway. All those things will fade.  But that same lady’s kid just might car jack you some day.

We have moved on in America from the brutality of our inception.  The early Americans had hard, short lives.  We have it good but don’t know what to do with it. We need to stop worrying about Social Security and Medicaid.  We need to stop worrying about gas prices.  They don’t matter!  We can start again. What matters is the inception. The American inception was brutal, bigoted and racist. Many good things came of it, but many stubborn practices are still followed to this day. Exclusionary, Imperial and short sighted practices. We need a new inception or one will be made for us.

All I know is that there is no sense of truth, unless you are bothered by some vague premonition. Those of us who are so bothered have stopped listening out of disgust.  I hope we can all grow up somehow and learn to communicate again.  And what is the dream after all?  What you are told or what you sense in your own being?

For those who have no clue what I am referring to, you need to watch some of these videos, This Movie Zeitgeist will open you eyes to some real issues that are being ignored by the media.

The “They” that control you like a puppet with invisible strings.|Part 1

I’ve been encouraged to Blog by my fellow band mates.  I’m not particularily enthused because I feel that there is plenty of good information out there if one is so inclined.  It ranges from Philosophy and History to Literature and other major Arts.  So why listen to me? I just play guitar in an obscure band and we shamelessly promote ourselves.  And why not? American Dream and all.  But if you do pay attention, you may be one among us who is waking from this dream.  Our parents and the institutions of our day beat it into us as if we should be afraid to think anything else. These institutions (Educational, Religious, Governmental) have a vested interest in creating what they view as a great society at the cost of all morality, equity and reality.  They perpetuate themselves.

Who is they? I’ve been told I should question myself if I start thinking in terms of “They”.  Bertrand Russell even admonished against paranoid and potentially delusional thinking.  But there is a “They”. As Chris Hedges, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and war correspondant, so eloquently asserts in his writing there is most indeed a They. They are the Pontifs of Power.  The deal makers, the jet setters, the fashion makers.  Many of these people have no more intelligence than the average citizen or more decency than a spoiled child.  They perpetuate the Agenda that is instructed. They do what makes them money and gains them adoration.  From pop music to movie stars to news pundits.  They spend all day working with unending resources to sway opinion.  To prod the unconcious mind of our Nation into consternation and confusion at one moment, hyper-egoism and primitivepatriotism at another.  But mostly they highlight the differences.  How you would be so much better if you lost a few pounds. How you deserve a new car. Sign the dotted line. These are the only values you should be concerned about.

Part 2 Coming Soon,

Jack
